Ia Drang Valley Vietnam
The valley deriving its name from the nearby Drang River in Vietnam's Central Highlands, was the site of the first major encounters between U.S Army. and the People's Army of Vietnam (PAVN). The Ia Drang Battle was the first time in Vietnam the US implemented the air mobility tactics in which troops were air-lifted into, supplied and extracted from the combat site by helicopters; and infantry was supported by co-ordinated air strikes, aerial rockets, machine guns and artillery from a far-afield firebase directed from a distance by on-site observers.
My Lai Son My Vietnam
Son My had been a little peaceful village bordered to the south by the Tra Khuc River and to the east by the East Vietnam Sea. Son My was divided into different hamlets, designated My Lai 1, 2, 3, 4 respectively. On March 16, 1968, 504 unarmed civilians of Son My, most of whom were women (some pregnant), children and infants, were massacred.
