My Tho
My Tho, the capital city of Tien Giang Province, is the closest destination of the Mekong Delta for the travelers from Ho Chi Minh City. The Upper Mekong River just dissects the region into myriad creeks and canals which are inhabited by different ethnic groups such as the Kinh, the Chinese, the Cham and the Khmer. My Tho and the vicinity can be daytripped from Sai Gon or combined with other surrounding areas of the Mekong Delta for 2-5 day tours.

Thoi Son Island is 1,100 hecta and surrounded by the waters of the mighty Mekong River. Thoi Son Island can only be reached by boat at the moment. Once there you can discover the island on foot or by boat for 1 hour or more. Thoi Son Island offers exotic boat cruise amid the coconut forests, local food and water life style of the local residents.
Cai Be Floating Market offers hustling bustling life on the water of the Mekong River residents. From early in the morning, hundreds of boats filled up with agricutural produce gather on the Mekong for exchanging goods. You can engage in the procession by haggling for some fresh seasonal fruits and enjoy fun with the local merchants. Bring lots of films or big memory cards for your cameras.

My Tho is the gateway to the Mekong Delta. The areas offer exotic life on the river, green orchards, villages with vanishing occupations...There are also some former battle fields for the veteran travellers. If you are a beach traveller, then Tan Thanh beach is quiet and empty most of the time.
